Britians Got Talent Winner : Jai McDowell |
Jai McDowall triumphed on Britain’s Got Talent, becoming the first Scottish act ever to win the show. He beat favourite-to-win Ronan Parke and boyband New Bounce, to take the top spot.
His quiet demeanour has meant he has avoided hitting the headlines like many other talent acts, so what do we really know about the BGT 2011 winner?
Jai is 24 years old and he was born and raised in Ayrshire village, Tarbolton.
He’s not the only famous face to come from Tarbolton – former Glasgow Rangers footballer Kris Boyd is also a native.
Jai has been singing since he was a young boy, although he has never been professionally trained.
Just like BGT 2009 runner-up Susan Boyle, who Jai has been likened too, he developed his passion for performing at the local karaoke.
Singing runs in his family as both his grandfather and father love to belt out a tune.
Jai says his dad, who has played in numerous local bands throughout the years, is his no.1 inspiration.
He is also a big fan of Michael Buble and Josh Groban, whose track To Where You Are, he performed in the final.
Jai performed Anthem from Chess in his first audition and he told stv.tv reporter Laura Boyd that musicals are where his passion lies.
Starring in local, amateur dramatic productions gave Jai a flair for performing in front of crowds, although never on the scale of Britain’s Got Talent.
His ultimate goal is to play the lead in a West End musical or land a part in hit TV show Glee.
He is also extremely excited about going on the Britain’s Got Talent tour.
Jai currently works as a care-worker, a job which he truly loves, although he may have to consider his career options now he is set to be a star.
Jai is also single and said that once the Britain’s Got Talent madness has settled down, he might consider looking for love.
He has already won an army of celeb supporters including fellow Scot Lorraine Kelly, who said he was a “lovely bloke.”
Seems we’ll be getting to know a lot more about the 'pride of Scotland' in the coming months. Congratulations Jai.
